Putu Global Advocacy Group protects, supports, and advocates for indigenous and tribal communities in Putu, Grand Gedeh County, across Liberia and Africa, and wherever people are dispossessed of their land or harmed by environmental degradation.
About Us
For decades, the natural resources of Liberia's indigenous communities have been pillaged, and ancestral, customary, and tribal lands have been destroyed. Mount Nimba, Mount Tokadeh, Bong Mines, and the Mano River all bear the marks of reckless exploration and depletion, while the people who live there have seen little of the wealth taken from beneath their feet.
PGAG was founded to protect our heritage and our communities from further exploitation and degradation. We are a nonpolitical, nonethnic, nonreligious, and nongovernmental organization.
Our purpose is simple: to see that exploitation ends, and that indigenous local people benefit from the wealth and resources of their own communities.
Our Work
We protect, support, and advocate for indigenous and tribal land and resources, standing with communities in Putu and in concession areas across Liberia, Africa, and beyond.
We review the terms, conditions, and community impact of company operations in Liberia, working toward a complete public record of concession agreements and accountability where they are broken.
